While too much whimsy puts me off (Modcloth springs to mind) Benefit has just enough retro charm to pull you in. While their price point is on par with department store brands their product is accessible and young making it an easy addition into the makeup bags of those who exclusively shop at drugstores.
I generally hate going to makeup counters because I have no self control. I like to chat with the sales ladies but I always feel like a terrible person if I don’t make a purchase from them… probably part of their sales tactic or just my own arbitrary guilt. So I tend to purchase sets with sample sizes of several products to try out at home when I will actually be honest with myself. My most recent purchase was the How To Look The Best At Everything Complexion Kit in ‘Light’.
Aside from being adorable (someday I will have decent lighting) this kit has everything I want to try inside and costs about the same as one full size product does. Let me break it down for you…
POREfessional Primer: First up is the primer. I always use primer when applying foundation because my skin is terribly oily and terribly dry at the same time. So far I like this. Usually I use a oil reducing primer but I haven’t found my face to be any more shiny using this. I am not sure if my pores look smaller but my makeup feels secure on my face! Full size retails for £24.50 here.
Hello Flawless Oxygen WOW Foundation: Finding a good foundation has been a struggle for me. Usually I go for a medium weight coverage because it does a decent job covering redness while not looking caked on. This foundation is nice, blends well and feels good but is a bit light. If paired with the concealer and powder it works well but on its own is not enough. Full size retails for £26.50 here.
Boi-ing Concealer: Probably my favourite part of this set is the two containers of this concealer. First off, having two shades of concealer is SO essential when covering different areas of the face. Life = changed. This stuff is light, blendable and covers beautifully. My current concealer is so sub-par compared to this product. I think I’m in love. Full size retails for £17.50 here.
Hello Flawless Custom Powder Cover Up: The final product in the set is also the final product you would put on your face. I usually switch between setting my look with a translucent powder and a coloured powder depending on the foundation I am wearing. This powder is silky and works great with the other products in the set. While I would definitely use this on its own, the set works best when used together. Full size retails for £25.50 here.
Overall I really love this set and the products inside and would definitely spend the money on the full size options, but I’m glad I could try them all out before committing to that purchase. Try it out for yourself for only £25.50 in three different shades for light, medium and deep skin tones. You can also probably go to you local Benefit counter to get a demo before buying! Happy shopping.
