Though being wrapped up in a cozy sweater or scarf is ideal this time of year you are always allowed to sparkle!
Metallics, sequins, glitter, and rhinestone details are great this time of year. Tanks with fun geometric sequin designs are great as are all over sequin pencil skirts. To sparkle without looking like a disco ball make sure that you only wear one flashy piece. Pair a sequin skirt with a knit sweater, a shimmery top with some sleek black skinny pants or even some fun pants with a basic knit neutral top.
Remember, metallics like gold, silver, pewter, rose gold etc. are considered NEUTRALS and go with everything including each other. So don’t be afraid to pair that gold top with some magenta pants or that shimmery silver jacket with a bold solid top!
Here are some affordable looks I love:
If you have been paying attention at all this season you know peplums are very trendy. This peplum top from Tinley Road is a great stand out piece. The all-over sequins are fun and sparkly. This look would really look great with slim pants or a body-hugging pencil skirt. Play up the color too! Pants or a skirt in a different shade of blue would really look great.
This is, without a doubt, my favorite shimmering piece. This all-over sequin pencil skirt from The Limited blends the classic suiting construction with a great rosy shimmer. A lot of people are scared of a fully sequined bottom, but have no fear! This skirt looks great with classic white button-up, chunky knit cowl sweater, basic cardigan, sheer blouse and much more. In store The Limited pairs it with a tweed jacket and chunky off-white knit sweater. The skirt is also fully lined and elastic so it hugs your body in all the right places.
Already have a great outfit that you want to add sparkle to? Try this sequin cap-sleeve shrug from Kohls. The simple construction makes it the perfect addition to any outfit from a little black dress to jeans and a cotton tank.
Though these may not suit everyone’s taste a great pair of metallic tights can really make a statement. These gold mix tights from The Limited can add a ton of character to a matte outfit. They come in three different colors so if gold isn’t your thing you can go with silver or a sparkly nude.
This sequin shift dress from MICHAEL by Michael Kors is to die for! The basic construction and short sleeve really balance out the serious shimmer . This dress stand on its own, no need for chunky jewelry. Maybe a pair of stud earrings and a ring would complement the look but that’s it– the dress is really its own accessory!
Want to sparkle while running errands? This causal pullover from JC Penney is the perfect top to pair with jeans for a shimmery and casual look. The top comes in a brown palette as well and at $25 you might as well get both!
A geometric pattern is another way to work the sequins! This basic top from Mango can be worn with a suit for a polished work look or jeans on your day off. A sequin tank is a staple for the holidays as it is not only glittery, but versatile.
Want to really make a statement? This sequin top from The Limited is the way to go! The top is covered in sequins of all sizes, the larger ones catching the light making it sparkle just a little more. The mixture of sequins in a variety of metallics makes this a great top to wear with any neutral bottom. With this much shimmer accessorize sparingly with small earrings and bracelet.
Dressing up your nails is just as fun as dressing up your body! This is my absolute favorite Deborah Lippmann nail color, “Across The Universe.” Aside from The Beatles reference, I love this color because it is a great blend of complimentary colors.
Don’t forget your feet! A great way to add sparkle to anything is with a great pair of shoes. These glittery flats from Boutique 9 are a perfect pair. You can find glittery or metallic shoes in any style you like in pretty much any color you want. Shoes are always the best accessory.
