One of the latest trends that’s certainly made its way into my makeup collection is lip crayons. Lip crayons are like a combination of lip liner and lipstick with that pencil precision but highly pigmented color. But like lipsticks they are varied depending on the brand. I decided to explore two kinds: Lord & Berry’s Crayon Lipstick in “Kiss” and Maybelline Color Drama Intense Velvet Lip Pencil in “Fuchsia Desire.”
The Lord & Berry crayon is very much like a lip pencil with the same kind of matte application. The color is very vivid and kind of a red with a bit of an orange tint to it. Applying it is very easy, as is lining your lips with crisp lines. Since I love matte colors I am very into this product for that reason. One thing you definitely have to do before wearing it is exfoliate and moisturise your lips because the matte color needs a smooth base and does not moisturise your lips at all.
The Maybelline variety is much smoother, hence the term ‘velvet’ in the product’s name. It glides on easily very much more like a lipstick. This product is a little more challenging when it comes to creating crisp lines because of the smoothness but it is much easier than a traditional lipstick. The color really pops and has a kind of slightly shimmery finish. This product is much more moisturising on your lips as it leans more toward lipstick than lip pencil.
Overall I like the Lord & Berry product more because it has a matte finish and applies more like a pencil, which is great for creating cleaner lines around the lips.
