Tonight I’m going to write about eye makeup because I have been seeing some god awful blogger selfies lately and I need to vent. First NEVER FILL YOUR BROWS IN WITH BLACK, unless you have black eyebrows naturally. I have black brows and always use dark brown. It physically pains me to see black painted on brows that are two completely different shapes. There is one person in particular I am thinking of but it’s a rule to live by. No black. Just don’t.
While we are on the topic I will let you in on my daily eye routine and some of my favourite products after years of testing different brands.
As someone who has been rocking the cat eye look for close to a decade I can tell you that a good liquid liner makes all the difference. The best, hands down, is Stila’s Liquid Liner. It’s dark, doesn’t smudge, is waterproof and is easy to apply. Also the spongey tip never warps in shape and only dries out when the product is gone. You will get several months of use out of a single liner and it will be 100% black 100% of the time.
My basic daily routine also includes use of Urban Decay’s Naked Basics Palette. This is essential and works for all skin tones. The colours work perfectly together to create a natural daytime look that can be expanded on with the darker colours. I generally use 3 shades in my day-to-day routine but they are all great.
Smashbox Glamorous Palette – similar £37
If I feel like looking a little jazzy (which is rare going by how un-used this is) I use Smashbox’s Glamorous Palette. Unfortunately this one is pretty old but you can get a similar range in the Full Exposure Eyes Shadow Palette. The colours are everything you need to create a shimmery, glamorous look. Smashbox is also a great company so having some of their stuff in your makeup bag couldn’t hurt.
If you want a mascara that is blacker than black you need Urban Decay’s Perversion. I have been using this for many moons and love it. It’s extremely dark and makes your lashes full and long. They also sell a great primer called ‘Subversion’ to enhance the look but I am too cheap to buy it when my lashes look very full with just the mascara.
Framing your face is SO IMPORTANT. Even though I have dark, fairly thick eyebrows I still fill them in. It really brings your look together. And like I said in the beginning, never use black, you will look ridiculous. Everyday I use Pixi Natural Brow Duo in ‘dark brown.’ It comes with a tinted gel and a pencil. I use the pencil portion because it fills the brows in perfectly, the composition is just waxy enough that it distributes a thin layer of colour while controlling the natural growing hairs. Unlike eye shadows and lipstick you don’t want a hyper-pigmented brow product, it’s too hard to control. I prefer this greatly to brow powders which I’ve found to be messy.
