Part of my job is to talk to bloggers and follow what they are doing. A side effect of this is that I am often exposed to things that make me want to spend money. Recently dozens of bloggers shared their reviews of a lipstick line by Makeup Revolution and I, an eager buyer, couldn’t resist (well played, Makeup Revolution marketing team).
I tried to order through the Makeup Revolution Store but the site kept freezing so in my desperation, I just ordered through Superdrug. In order to meet the £10 minimum for free shipping I had to purchase a number of items (no complaints) so I got to try quite a few (3 for 2 deal is killer).
First I decided to try their Vamp Collection lipstick after seeing many great reviews. I chose “Rebel With Cause” because it’s a great deep colour for fall and I am always looking to find the right deep tone. The colour is rich and the lipstick smooth. I’m actually surprised a lipstick that cost £1 lasts as long as it does and doesn’t sit on your lips like goop. I wore it apartment hunting for several hours in London in the rain and it held up perfectly! Test passed.
Now usually I don’t apply anything to my lips that comes in a bottle with applicator (I hate gloss) but these lacquers are from the “Velvet” collection and are matte. I chose the colours “Keep Trying For You,” “I Fall In Love,” and “Keep Lying For You.” I found the colours to all be very bold and matte once dried. The applicator was a little tricky because the colour is so pigmented you may need something smaller to really line your lips. I haven’t worn one for a whole day yet but for the few hours I did the colour maintained its quality. My only complaint is that the packaging is incredibly cheap looking, that gothic font has got to go.
At this point I still had a few pounds to spend and didn’t want to buy all lip colours. I decided to get the Matte Concealer Stick and check it out. It works well, providing the coverage you need for stray spots and redness. The colour is fine other than being a bit too yellow for me, but I feel like that’s more of my problem than anything.
To combat my addiction to bronzer I decided to try the Highlighting Powder in “Golden Lights.” The powder is soft and shimmery attracting the perfect amount of light to your cheekbones (or wherever else) while not looking you just dunked your head in a pile of glitter. This would also be a great powder to use on your eyes…endless possibilities.
So all in all, good stuff! I always assume cheaper brands produce bad products but and thats a dangerous assumption. So give it a try at Makeup Revolution‘s site or at Superdrug (where you can get 3 for 2.)
My Makeup Revolution wish list for my next purchase includes more lipsticks and a few eyeshadow colours! You really can never have too many.
