2014 is all about radiant orchid.
Every year the fine people at Pantone select a color of the year that influences fashion, beauty, event, and home decor all year long. Last year we celebrated an emerald hue but this year is a little lighter with a beautiful orchid color.
Wearing the color of the year can be a challenge because the color Pantone selects is very specific and, unless you are buying a Pantone product, is hard to match exactly. The best way to celebrate the color is to dress in complimentary colors. Since this year’s color is a pink/purple look for magenta, lavender, and lilac pieces to work it into your wardrobe. Here are five ways you can do that.
The easiest way to add a little color into your look is on your nails. Nail polish comes in virtually every shade imaginable so you can find one to compliment which aspect of the orchid you like the most. Like the Essie colors above you can go a little darker, play up the purple, or stay a little closer to the true hue with a pinker option. These colors also look great together so go wild!
If you are a little more bold you can embrace the radiant orchid on your lips! The shades above all play off the general hue to some degree with some leaning more towards pink, and others more toward purple. Dior, Pantone Universe for Sephora, and YSL are all great brands but you can easily find something similar at your local drugstore. I suggest browsing the shades in Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks and L’Oreal glosses.
3. Solid Tops
An easy wardrobe addition is a great simple solid top. These tops all have a great radiant orchid look (more on the magenta side but definitely on trend) and serve different purposes. You can find sweaters, like the ones from Old Navy and Nasty Gal, and lighter more summery tops like the one from Piperlime. All of these can be paired with neutral bottoms and look especially great with black.
Add a simple touch with an orchid accessory! You have a zillion options as far as accessories go, belts, bags, watches, and tights. Pair an orchid belt with a lavender dress and go tonal! Or add a great orchid cross body bag to an all black look and make it pop! The world is your oyster.
Cover yourself in radiant orchid with a beautiful dress! You have a million options as far as dresses go. You can go for a floral frock, lace, color block, or a simple solid. All of the dresses shown above are sold at Piperlime from a number or different designers. You can also find some great cheaper options at retailers like Old Navy and Target who always have the basics.
