Sometimes seeing red isn’t a bad thing.
It’s February, which means that Valentine’s Day is upon us (oh, and my birthday). Other than Christmas this is red’s favorite day of the year. Red roses, dresses, hearts, jewels, and shoes; red is the color of love and desire.
Whether you are wearing it out or staying in, adding a few red pieces to your wardrobe this time of the year is a great idea. And because of the season, you have many pieces to choose from.
Red dresses are a must for a Valentine’s Day out. In this post I am focusing on solid red looks, which I think look best at this time of the year. Solid has a certain pop and sophistication that printed red dresses… or the horrid and tacky red with black lace dresses don’t. Go for something short this season in whichever shape best suits your shape. The looks above, all from Forever 21 or Factory, are super affordable and versatile. Add some heels and jewels for an evening out or some tights, boots, and a jacket for a more edgy and less formal look.
Some people are afraid of wearing a bold color on the bottom so I am here to tell you there is nothing to worry about! A bright color will not make your butt look huge. It’s all about finding the right cut and shape for your body. These bottoms are examples of different varieties you should look for. A great soft pant is super on trend right now and looks great with a sweater. A long maxi skirt, while not super smart for a snowy day, is always a good choice for a bohemian look. My favorite is the faux-leather skater skirt that looks fab with ankle boots and neutral top.
Wearing red on top is a lot easier than the bottom for most. The selection is wide this season with pieces that look great on a casual day, a dressy day, and a work day. These looks represent a number of looks. The peplum top looks great with a pencil skirt or mini for both a work or going out look. The cropped chunky sweater looks great with a high-waisted skirt or regular rise jeans. The red leather jacket is the perfect touch to a casual or edgy look and no, you won’t look like Michael Jackson.
Accessories are the best part of fashion because for the most part, they always fit! Red accessories look great as a statement piece with a number of different colors. You can use this adorable quilted barrel bag with a little black dress, the red necklace from Dorothy Perkins with jeans and a white sweater, and the red peep-toe pumps with skinny jeans and a blazer.
And finally, you can’t go wrong with some red beauty touches. Red lipstick is always a must so check out NARS varieties for the perfect shade for your complexion. Red nails are a beauty basic so look for some long lasting shades from Essie and OPI. If you want a glossier look try a super pigmented red gloss that will give you an extra boost of shine.
