Highlighters are having a moment.
Everyone is looking for the perfect glow and beauty brands are churning out the product. You can find formulas that give you a subtle dewy look or serious metallics that give you a really bold and cut face. Powders, creams and liquids the options are endless.
I’ve been trying out a handful of different products to see which I like best and really it all depends on what kind of glow you want, what your skin tone is, and what kind of finish you are going for.
Powders are great because they can be applied very subtly but also built up for a bigger impact. Creams and liquids are a little harder to control but put out a bigger punch from the start.
I have been testing out a creation by The Beauty Crop called Lighting Crew which is a cream highlighter. It goes on very light and smooth and has a great radiance and delicious smell. This is a product that would look amazing on bare skin and can be blended to be really subtle. I feel like this is more skincare than makeup because it is so silky and really boots your complexion without making you look metallic.
I love Benefit’s Watt’s Up which is a champagne cream-to-powder highlighter. The finish is silky smooth and it applies nicely. The champagne color works well with most skin tones too, I think of it as the neutral to the highlighter world.
My go-to daily highlighter is Benefit’s High Beam. It’s got a great cool shimmer which works well with my very fair cool-undertone complexion. The liquid is smooth and blends easily either on a bare face or over makeup. You can build it up after letting it dry but if its over makeup it may make the foundation a little funky.
I got Model Co’s Highlighting Trio in an Ipsy Bag so I figured I would give it a try. The creamy highlighters are nice, very metallic and shimmery. It’s not my favorite of the highlighting bunch but it is definitely worth a try especially since it comes with all three colors so you can customize your look everyday. The champagne color is my favorite but the bronze shimmer is also nice for those who want to get a bronze and highlight in one product.
Colourpop is such a great brand with endless options you just know their highlighters will be great. I have the powder highlighter in Spoon and definitely love it. You can apply with a brush or your finger to get the concentration you want. It’s very build able and luminous. They have a great line of shades so you really can’t go wrong…plus it’s only $8!
If you would rather go the drugstore route you will like L’Oreal’s Lumi powder highlighters. I got one in the Rose options and love it. It has for different colors that create radiance and dimension when combined or can be used separately. This shade is perfect for any skin tone but they do have other sets for cool and warm skin tones.
Which highlighter is your favorite? Which should I try out next!?
