You know what’s missing in your closet? An edgy and chic jacket.
You can never have too many jackets.
Since it seems winter isn’t coming this year now is the perfect time to wear a great denim, leather or knit jacket in an edgy shape.
Though the basic leather motorcycle jacket is an absolute staple (mine is worn almost daily) there are a lot more choices out there to satisfy your taste. In my jacket search I have found pieces in faux-leather of all shades, I especially love burgundy or dark green styles, so chic. I have also found some other great pieces like a tweed jacket in an edgy shape and knit jackets with allover prints and interesting cuts.
So be bold! Jackets are like accessories, you can get a little funky and take some chances.
Here are some fabulous pieces.
I am starting a post with a jacket I am dying to buy. This moto jacket from Free People is the perfect combination of a floral tapestry print and a classic motorcycle jacket shape. This is both edgy and feminine, rustic and rugged. The asymmetrical exposed zipper really emphasizes the motorcycle jacket inspiration even surrounded by flowers. The jacket is polyester and almost looks like it is made from a couch- but it WORKS!
Did I mention how much I love tweed? Though tweed is usually reminiscent of menswear (hello tweed blazers) you can work it in many different ways depending on the shape of the garment. This jacket from Warehouse is a great way to wear edgy tweed. This red and black jacket has faux-leather trim, color-block pockets, and exposed hardware. This collarless look is chic and great for winter, work, and a night out.
Leather biker jackets look great in color. This burgundy leather by Vila is a great example of colored leather. The burgundy is a shade that works for just about everyone, it isn’t super bright and overpowering but it’s definitely not boring. I love that this piece also incorporates a tab collar, arm details, and tasseled zippers.
Never underestimate the value of a great denim jacket. Though it may seem denim jackets went out of style in the 90s they are actually great pieces to have. The key is to find one with the right fit and construction, an oversized denim jacket is never cute so make sure it fits. This one from Dorothy Perkins is a great example, it’s cropped so it doesn’t look bulky and has a great studded shoulder detail that makes it super modern.
This piece probably won’t keep you very warm but it’s still great for the season. This faux-leather look from Forever 21 is a great variation on the classic leather jacket. It features a front zip with chain-link trim, 3/4 length sleeve and no collar.
This is really only the tip of the iceberg, great jackets are everywhere this time of year. A brand I highly recommend is Free People, in addition to the floral one at the beginning of this post they also have a slew of other designs ranging from classic to quirky.
