A few weeks ago I decided to go get my hair done, mainly because it has been months since it has even seen a trim. I also wanted to get an ombre treatment since I’ve had it done in the past and liked how it lightened my look without requiring tons of maintenance.
Of course being as cheap as I am I didn’t want to pay much so I made an appointment at a salon nearby that got decent Yelp reviews. But of course, you get what you pay for. When I left it essentially looked like the stylist just bleached the bottom fourth of my hair; no gradient, no nothing. Obviously not being happy with that I decided just to dye it myself.
I went to Superdrug and picked up Colour-Freedom’s “Magenta Dream” semi permanent colour to try it out. Since my dye-job wasn’t super blonde I wasn’t sure just how vivid the colour would end up being.
The process was simple, no mixing ingredients and no foul smell. I did get magenta colour all over the bathroom so, be careful of that. After about 20 minutes of leaving it in I washed it out. Per the instructions you have to rinse until it rinses clear which honestly takes at least 15 minutes. When doing this pay attention to where the colour is falling so you don’t stain the tile or the tub.
The colour was surprisingly vivid! I was shocked since I didn’t have the white-blonde colouring that usually does best with colourful dyes. It looked so much better than my crappy ombre the ultimate test is how long it would last.
On the bottle it says it will wash out in 6 – 10 washes depending on your hair. I have oily, stringy hair that requires daily washing so the colour lasted about 6 washes I would say before I had to do it again. If you are someone who doesn’t have to wash your hair everyday you would get much more time out of each application.
Overall I was really happy with it. I am also pumped because the bottle is fairly large and re-usable so you can get several applications out of one purchase…and its only £4.66!
Once I am done with this tube I will go for another colour, maybe something blue?
