I am not saying you need to go out and buy some lucite platform stripper heels, but little touches of lucite or clear colored plastics are very in style for spring.
I feel like this trend needs a little proof. The transparent trend can be seen in many high end lines like the colorful transparent bags of Burberry, the lucite heels and cuffs of Michael Kors, and the crystal clutches and platforms of Stella McCartney.
I especially love this trend in shoes and chunky jewelry like cuffs and bauble necklaces. Clear touches to bags, or crystal-like clutches are also fabulous.
The key to wearing this trend is finding pieces that look like they cost a lot. Make sure you buy something with a modern shape and good construction. If you go for the cheapest you will be wearing something akin to those smelly jelly sandals we all wore in kindergarten.
Here are some of my favorites!
First up are these great sandals by Kate Spade New York. These are a great example of using transparency as a detail and not a focal point. The small piece of lucite in the heel is super stylish, especially in a block heel. These would be a great pair to wear through the summer and they also come in a black and cream variation that is a little more formal looking.
Want a pair like those Kate Spade sandals but for 1/4 of the price? Well you’re in luck! Nordstrom also sells these great sandals by Aldo for only $89.95. These feature a little more of the clear style with a leather t-strap peep toe.
These are pricey but I feel like I need to include them. These lucite wedges are by Lanvin and are fabulous. Though these may be a little on the expensive side (or a lot) they represent a great variety in the transparent trend–the wedge. I also love these because they feature a closed, semi-pointed toe in a sea of sandals and block heels.
These by Jeffrey Campbell are fabulous! These heels take the clear detail beyond the heel and onto the the toe, which I love. Another great clear detail is a clear ankle strap but I have yet to find any outside the expensive realm of runway fashion like Michael Kors. Still searching though!
For a more traditional pump shape try these by Jeffrey Campbell. These feature fabulous lucite side panels with a classic shape. These would look great in more formal attire where chunky sandals are less desirable.
You can also go for a short look! I love these almond toe, kitten heel shoes again, by Jeffrey Campbell. These also feature the lucite side panels which make a great detail and classy touch.
If you are daring try carrying a clear bag! This cross body from Marc by Marc Jacobs is super on trend and can also be worn as a clutch. This is the kind of bag that is there to make a fashion statement, not carry around a bunch of junk.
On of my favorite ways to wear lucite is in a chunky cuff bracelet. This one by Vince Camuto is fantastic and features a gold hinge. Wrists are the best place to play with this trend. You can find chunky clear bracelets in a number of colors in a number of brands. You can stack them, wear them separately, or pair with other jewelry for a great layered look.
Before you shop have a look at some of the links above from the runway. By looking at the pieces on styled models you can really get a feel for what the designer is intending with these lucite details and how to not overdo it.
