There are always ways to change your look without doing, or spending, too much. This season we are seeing the return of the emphasized collar in many designer’s collections.
Shirts, dresses, and stand-alone collars covered in rhinestones, sequins, studs, lace and other embellishments are in every department store and independent retailer this season.
Getting creative with your collar is chic and easy. Here are a few ways to do that!
This classic woven button-up from The Limited is a great way to follow the trend in a subtle way. This top (which is only $20 by the way) is a classic piece and can be worn with a million different things. The gold sequin collar adds the great metallic finishing touch on the neckline.
This top is another variation on a classic piece. This contrast collar top from Oasis features a simple black top with a floral pattern collar. The added floral detail adds some lightness and femininity to the look. I love the contrast of a floral pattern with a dark neutral.
I am in love with this lace shirt dress from Rare! The classic construction with indigo lace is perfectly on trend for the winter. The added pearl collar with matching pearl beads makes the look unique and refined. The pearl collar also goes around the back of the neck so the look can be seen from the back or front.
Looking for something to wear out? Try this dress from Aqua. The figure-flattering shape and dark teal gemstone inspired color make this a beautiful dress even without the collar. The white and black pearl embellished collar makes a statement that even the most beautiful necklace couldn’t pull off.
Looking for something a little more flirty? Try this waffle knit collar dress from Free People. Instead of chunky pearls or shimmering sequins this look features a crochet collar and fun bow-tie that is light and whimsical. The best part, it also comes in black!
Already have a great top or dress that would look great with a fun collar? Grab one of these sequin peter pan collars from Candies to add a bit of sparkle to whatever you are wearing. I would love to wear this with a colorful dress. It is reminiscent of Chippendales– but in a good way!
This look from American Rag is a great casual collar look. The contracting black peter pan collar looks great with the sheer polka dots. Wear this look with jeans or tucked into a classic pencil skirt.
Ditch that WASPy strand of pearls and grab this beautiful pearl inspired collar necklace from Pieces. This collar might be my favorite because of it’s wide design and intricate beading. It is subtle, beautiful and understated. Perfect with a beautiful dress or casual sweater in a gemstone hue.
